Thank You! Thank You! Got any more?
Is this any worse than Fox News or MSNBC?
No.
Are the plugs for Camel cigarettes any worse than talk shows of today promoting fad diets?
I'd say no.
Is the middle commercial shown as being news?
Maybe, but anyone with half a brain could have realised it was a commercial. People of the 1950s were more sophisticated than you'd like to think. Television commercials were being spoofed at least as far back as 1950 (see kinescope of "Cavalcade of Stars" featuring "Arthur Clodfrey"....also see 1950 feature film "My Blue Heaven"....plus there are many other examples of advertising being spoofed in the 1950s)
Is this newscast full of flaws in reporting as well as technical goofs?
Of course. Just don't pretend this doesn't happen today, OK?
Did Cavalier Cigarettes have nice packaging?
Yes....I am a fan of packaging design so I pay attention to things like this in old commercials.
Historical Value: 5/5
Entertainment Value: 4/5
Journalism Value: 1/5
Middle commercial rating: 1/5
End commercial for "Cavalier": 6/5
NBC Chimes: infinity/5 (I could watch it on repeat all day)
